Ashley Mthunzi, the Tembisa Hospital's suspended head, has passed away.

The CEO of Tembisa Hospital, Ashley Mthunzi, who was suspended, has gone away. On April 23, 2041, the Gauteng Department of Health declared him dead. In August 2022, Mthunzi was put on precautionary suspension because of claims that the hospital had improperly paid for and acquired services from suppliers.

The hospital made questionable purchases during his tenure, which he disputed, including 100 leather recliners for R500,000, 2,000 hand towels for R230 apiece, and about R500,000 worth of slim jeans. It was believed that Babita Deokaran, a whistleblower who was subsequently assassinated, was connected to her disclosures. The funeral service for Dr. Mthunzi will begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday at Winchester Hills 2. During this trying time of grief, the Gauteng Health Department sent its condolences to his friends, family, and coworkers.

The allegations against Dr. Ashley Mthunzi.

Ashley Mthunzi, the CEO of Tembisa Hospital, was accused of improper procurement and payment of service providers during his tenure. Strict transactions, such as purchasing hand towels for R230 each, leather armchairs for R500,000, and skinny jeans for almost R500,000, led to his precautionary suspension in August 2022. An investigation is underway to determine the truth behind his actions.

Was there any legal action taken against him?

During his tenure, Tembisa Hospital's CEO, Dr. Ashley Mthunzi, was the target of grave accusations. In August 2022, his suspension resulted from an inquiry into the hospital's unlawful procurement and payment of service suppliers. During a period of high COVID-19 infections, contracts with firms lacking health experience were the subject of complaints. The hospital made questionable purchases under his direction, such as R230 for 2,000 hand towels, R500,000 for 100 leather recliners, and over R500,000 for slim jeans.

According to a News24 exposé, the hospital spent R2,500 per pair on 200 pairs of slim jeans. Notwithstanding the accusations, Dr. Mthunzi's case was not prosecuted right away. Lerato Madyo, the hospital's chief financial officer, and other officials connected to the Special Investigative Unit's (SIU) investigation of the hospital's contracts were also placed on suspension. August 2023 was scheduled for Dr. Mthunzi's disciplinary trial on corruption accusations. Because of the erratic contracts and financial practices he oversaw, his reputation is still debatable.
