At least four people have died as a result of a powerful storm that struck Texas, causing catastrophic weather in Houston. In addition to causing massive power outages that impacted up to 900,000 homes and businesses, the storm also left behind substantial damage, including fallen trees and a crane accident. The infrastructure of the city has been severely damaged, with several highways becoming unusable as a result of fallen power lines and debris.
For their own protection, Houstonians are being warned by their mayor to stay indoors and keep off the roadways. The Houston Independent School District has decided to close its schools, and emergency services are clearing roads and restoring electricity. The neighborhood is going through a trying period; therefore, people are asked to be safe and heed the advice of the local authorities.
Precautions in the event of severe weather during storms include being weather-ready, registering for alerts, putting together a communications plan, and selecting a safe area without windows. Keeping trees and branches trimmed, securing loose things, shutting windows, and relocating priceless valuables within or behind a strong structure are all part of preparing your house.
