New faces" in the Foreign Ministry and the Media: Assad names his government ministers.

Syrian regime President Bashar al-Assad issued a decree appointing ministers for his new government, which is now headed by Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali. According to the decree published by the SANA news agency on Monday, Bassam Sabbagh was appointed to succeed Faisal al-Miqdad as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

Sabbagh previously served as Deputy Foreign Minister and was Syria’s representative to the United Nations. Assad issued a decree appointing Faisal al-Miqdad as Vice President of the Republic, authorizing him to “follow up on the implementation of foreign and media policy within the framework of the President’s directives.

Ziad Ghosn was appointed Minister of Information, succeeding Boutros Hallaq. Ghosn is a journalist who has written for local media outlets in recent years and was particularly interested in reports on the country’s economic situation. Assad kept Mohammad Abdul Sattar al-Sayyed as Minister of Endowments, General Ali Mahmoud Abbas as Minister of Defense, and Mohammad Khaled al-Rahmoun as Minister of Interior.

However, he changed the faces of other ministries, such as Industry, which went to Mohammad Samer al-Khalil, and Finance, which was assigned to Riad Abdul Raouf. On September 14, Assad assigned former Minister of Communications Al-Jalali to form a new government, weeks after holding the "People's Assembly" elections in areas under regime control.

These elections and the subsequent formation of the new government were preceded by the Syrian regime's move to hold "elections" within the "People's Party" headed by Assad, who recently made changes at the security level, describing them as "part of restructuring.

The Syrian regime is subject to international sanctions due to the violations committed by its forces in Syria over the past years, and until now the United Nations and Western countries have stressed the need to implement UN Resolution No. (2254) on the political solution in the country. Assad has ignored calls to implement the UN resolution more than once over the past years, and two years ago he evaded meetings related to drafting a new constitution for Syria.
