Two Italians fined for smuggling butterflies in Sri Lanka.

According to the British news agency (BBC), two citizens from Italy had come to Sri Lanka for their vacation, where they caught butterflies without permission.

According to media reports, the two tourists tried to smuggle hundreds of native insects, including 92 species of butterflies, from Sri Lanka's Yala National Safari Park. According to reports, security personnel at Safari Pak said they caught 68-year-old Logi and his 28-year-old son with more than 300 dead insects in various containers.

Reports suggest that the Italians planned to catch butterflies and moths and use wax bags to chemically preserve them. According to media reports, he was convicted in early September of illegally collecting, storing, and transporting insects and was fined a whopping 2 million Sri Lankan rupees.
